Negotiating until Iran has the bomb?
STOP THE BOMB criticizes talks with Iranian regime in Geneva
The European coalition STOP THE BOMB severely criticizes the new round of negotiations on the Ayatollahs' nuclear program in Geneva. The coalition has been campaigning for tough sanctions against the Iranian regime, for Western support of the Iranian opposition and for the prevention of a nuclear Iran since 2007, with the support of Nobel Prize laureates Elie Wiesel, Imre Kertesz and Elfriede Jelinek.
Political analyst and Scientific Director of STOP THE BOMB, Stephan Grigat, criticizes the P5+1 negotiators for departing from the UN Security Council resolutions, which demand the complete cessation of uranium enrichment: "If these negotiations - which legitimize a regime that has already lost its legitimacy with large parts of the Iranian population - really have to take place, they should at least completely eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat. The goals of the negotiations should therefore be the complete and verifiable cessation of uranium enrichment, the complete removal of all enriched uranium out of the country, the closure of the nuclear facility in Fordo, the dismantling of the centrifuges in Natanz and the shutdown of the heavy water reactor in Arak."
The spokesman for STOP THE BOMB Europe, Michael Spaney, refers to the negative role President Rouhani had in the conflict about Iran's nuclear weapons program in the past: "As chief negotiator in 2005, Rouhani decisively advanced Iran's nuclear program with his strategy of deception. During his election campaign Rouhani boasted of deceiving, delaying and secretly advancing the nuclear program. The regime in Tehran is again playing for time. A new report of the Institute for Science and International Security estimates that Iran could produce enough weapons-grade uranium for one bomb within a month. The West must not be fooled by the delaying tactics of Iran's rulers and has to intensify the pressure on the regime."
